Wood Product & Biomass

California’s forests are a frontier for new market opportunities. New investments are being made in the development of sustainable forest products, including energy production, mass timber construction materials and other forms of sustainable wood products.

In collaboration with California’s Forest Management Task Force, GO-Biz is assisting in the development of new industries and technologies to expand and improve forest management. Our goal is to enhance forest health and resiliency as well as incentivize the forest product and building industries to utilize material from forest health and fuel reduction projects.

In Spring 2020, the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR), in consultation with the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA), initiated a cross-agency discussion about woody feedstocks to help launch an administration-wide vision for productive and sustainable use of our agricultural, urban, and forest woody feedstock in ways that promote our core state values and priorities. These include: wildfire prevention; forest management; environmental protection; waste reduction and reuse; climate leadership; and sustainable economic development, particularly in rural communities.

Advanced Transportation and Manufacturing Sales and Use Tax Exemption

The California Alternative Energy and Advanced Transportation Financing Authority (CAEATFA) offers a full sales and use tax exclusion to manufacturers that promote alternative energy and advanced transportation.

The California Cap-and-Trade program puts billions of dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment.
